Take it from the Philippine LGBT community to be the first in making a parody of this year’s controversial Miss Universe.
A video uploaded on Facebook by Benedict Togonon Tan showed a skit of the pageant gaffe performed by drag queens at the O Bar, a popular bar for the Filipino LGBT in Ortigas.
The skit shows two drag queens as Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines and a third actor for Steve Harvey, the host who made the mix-up and wrongly announced Colombia’s Ariadna Gutierrez as the Miss Universe.
Harvey had to correct himself and announced Philippines’ bet Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach as the rightful queen. Gutierrez had to be decrowned on live television.
In the skit, Steve Harvey was greeted with a dance number to the tune of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” after he made the mix-up and said “I had to apologize.”
Miss Colombia meanwhile lipsynced to another Bieber song “What Do You Mean” while peering at the card that indeed named Philippines as the rightful queen.
When the Philippines went in front to get the crown, she sang “Hello” by Adele while mocking Miss Colombia. She was then egged on in front by another drag queen Miss Bulgaria, who gained popularity in memes online for being Wurtzbach’s “pambansang bestie” or national bestfriend.
After getting the crown, Miss Philippines sang to the tune of “We are the Champions,” pointing at the teary-eyed Miss Colombia when singing the lyrics “No time for losers.”
The skit even caught the attention of the real Miss Bulgaria Radost Todorova, who shared the video on her Facebook account and said “Great parody, great blonde Miss Bulgaria Universe!”
The video got over 800,000 views or close to a million since it was posted on Dec. 27. It also got over 18,000 likes and 21,000 shares.
Victory for the Philippines!
