Pedro Mendes became the first Swiss to win the Mr. International pageant, one of the most anticipated male beauty competitions worldwide.
In an interview with ANC Mornings on Tuesday, Mendes revealed that the experience gave him “a new life.”
“It’s crazy. It’s amazing. It has opened doors for me for the future to provide me new life.”
Aside from modeling in Switzerland, Paris, and Milan, Mendes said he works in the energy sector in his home country.
“In Switzerland, I am modeling in the fashion world. I go to Paris and Milan for fashion works. I also have a work. [My main] work is in the electricity and development of energy,” Mendes said.
The Swiss admitted that he considered Mr. Brazil as his main competitor for the crown due to the fact the guy spoke better English.
“My English is very bad. [My main language is] French, and a little Portuguese because my parents are from Portugal.”
Long before the pageant night, Mendes followed a strict diet and workout routine as preparation for the competition.
“Nutrition is the most important because I think it’s number one. [I also] work out every day [and do] different sports [like] football, tennis. Because in Switzerland we love tennis. And Roger Federer is very good player,” said Mendes.
As the reigning Mister International, Mendes would like to promote his advocacy of health and fitness.
“I want to promote health and fitness in the world and I think it’s a good work.”
The newly-crowned Mister international also made a revelation which may break the hearts of his admirers: Mendes has a girlfriend.
“I have a girlfriend. She’s Switzerland’s [representative for] Ms. Supranational; She’s in Poland at this moment for the pageant,” he revealed.
The 10th Mister International pageant was hosted by the Philippines for the first time at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Theater.

1st runner-up: Mister Brazil, Anderson Tomazini
2nd runner-up: Mister Korea, Sang-Jin Lee
3rd Runner-up: Mister Panama, Julian Torres

Philippines’ bet Reniel Villareal made it to the top 10 and was also the over-all winner in the Best in National Costume award for an Ibong Adarna-inspired costume by fashion designer Edwin Uy. Ibong Adarna is a mythical bird in Philippine mythology.
The other winners for best costume are Kenny Austin from Indonesia and Rafael Angelucci from Venezuela.
Mister Singapore Edwin Aw also won as Mister Congeniality International, while Mister Mexico Alejandro Ruiz won as Mister Photogenic International.
The 2014’s title holder from the Philippines, Mariano Perez Flormata, Jr., widely known by his screen name Neil Perez, was also at the event to ceremoniously pass on the crown. The Filipino police officer became a viral sensation last year following the release of photos showing his chiseled body, a far cry from the stereotypical image of cops with protruding belly.
