Philippines’ bet Trixie Maristela on Friday bested 26 candidates all over the world and snatched the title of Ms. International Queen 2015, a highly coveted crown in the transgender community.
Brazil’s Valesca Dominik Ferraz was named first runner-up while Thailand’s Sopida Siriwattananukoon was named second runner-up.
During the question and answer portion, Maristela was asked to “compare beauty inside and beauty outside” to which she answered:
“Beauty from the inside starts from the heart but beauty from outside is just a physical appearance…[B]eauty in the inside will radiate outside because a true queen does not want just a beautiful face or golden crown, but a true queen also possesses a golden heart,” she said.
According to her Facebook bio, Maristela, 29, has a degree in European Languages from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. She is also a member of the LGBT organization UP Babaylan. She said her greatest ambition in life is to be a human rights lawyer.
Maristela is also the reigning Ms. Gay Manila. She had her first break when she won “Eat Bulaga’s” Super Sireyna Philippines beauty pageant in 2014.
After the pageant, her boyfriend Art Sta. Maria posted on his Facebook account an emotional message for the beauty queen.
“My heart was filled with joy…I knew she was going to win, but I was still so overwhelmed. I couldn’t be prouder. We’ve been talking about it for years, and I knew that the crown will be on her head. But it was actually happening, unfolding right before my very eyes. It was surreal. It was a dream. The tears, well they just flowed, couldn’t stop it,” he said.
“Each tear drop that fell was filled with pride, with love, with happiness. You are the queen now, and I your forever jester. I love you,” he added.
Sta. Ana, an aspiring pilot and former radio DJ, is the author of the book “He’s Dating the Transgender,” where he shares the story of his relationship with Trixie.
Considered as the most prestigious beauty pageant for transgender women, Miss International Queen is open pre and post operated women between the ages of 18 and 36.
