The cousin of Ladlad party-list founder Prof. Danton Remoto was found murdered in his house in Albay, in what Remoto believes to be a hate crime.
In a Facebook post by Ladlad, Remoto said Dennis “Din-Din” Relato, Ladlad coordinator for Albay, was “found murdered in cold blood” Tuesday morning at his residence in Oas, Albay.
Remoto said Relato was stabbed with 20 wounds, mostly on the neck, which almost torn off one of the victim’s ears.
Remoto said his cousin may have been a victim of a hate crime, urging anyone who has information to email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“I suspect it is a hate crime. Anyone from Legaspi City or in Albay who saw him yesterday with a male companion, please send an email to email@example.com. Your help and your prayers are kindly requested,” Remoto said.
He urged the LGBT community to be careful in the country where it is proving to be more dangerous to be gay.
“Mag-ingat po tayo, may masasamang-loob sa kapaligiran natin. Salamat,” Remoto said.
The most renowned case of supposed hate crime this year is the slay of transgender Jennifer Laude allegedly by US Marine Pfc. Joseph Scott Pemberton in Olongapo city, Zambales.
Pemberton’s lawyers have said the alleged murder was a result of a “gay shock syndrome” after Laude purportedly deceived him into believing she was a woman. Pemberton also admitted to choking Laude.
